What is in Pet Food?
PFMA (Pet Food Manufacturers’ Association) is the principle trade body representing the UK pet food industry. Their 50 members account for over 90% of the market. Member companies produce foods for cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs and other small animals.
“Providing a good quality, nutritionally balanced diet is the single most important thing an owner can do for the long-term health of their pet. At the PFMA website, we aim to arm pet owners with all the necessary information to learn more about the nutritional needs of pets and the different foods available.” say PFMA.
With this is mind they have produced a free document, available on their website, called 'What’s in pet food' which tells pet owners about the ingredients typically used in pet food and why they are used. The document helps explain terms such as ‘Animal Derivatives’ as well as explaining other ingredients that go into pet foods. The whole PFMA website is packed full of useful pet food information.
